Though it masqueraded as low-key and unfussy, a show that simply eavesdropped on blind dates, its approach was more high-concept than it first appeared. One person went on five dates, then chose their favourite for a second date. So far, so familiar. But the editing made it all look as if it took place on the same night, in a sort of hopeful-romantic Groundhog Day.
And so each date took place at the same place, in the same clothes, often with the same questions and jokes. These were edited to look as if they were all happening at once, and it was borderline arthouse.
Twelve captivating episodes of the American version are available now, in addition to the first seasons of the show’s France and Brazil versions. “.
The new Netflix show “Love Is Blind” has brought a 21st century twist to a reality dating format that has been around since the beginning of television. And in doing so, it has taken over the lives of social media users unable to pry themselves away from their screens since its release this month. The show’s premise turns the dynamic of modern romance on its head: While most people use dating apps to select potential partners based on looks, contestants on “Love Is Blind” are meant to fall in love based on personality, before ever seeing each other.
The catch? Contestants who partner up after meeting in the show’s “dating pods,” where the hopefuls can hear but not see each other, will have to become engaged and agree to marry in a matter of weeks in order to actually meet. The show’s creator, Kinetic Content founder Chris Coelen, told NBC News in an email that he developed the concept based on the idea that “everyone wants to be loved for who they are on the inside.
Coelen said that while technology is meant to streamline dating, it often makes it more complicated and that what is meant to connect people can leave them feeling even more disconnected. That’s why, he said, “Love Is Blind” eliminated any visual, superficial element contestants could use to judge one another. While the extreme premise is one that has captured viewers’ attention, experts say the show isn’t that different from those at the dawn of television.
Although Netflix doesn’t release specific viewership numbers, the show has been a viral hit, tweeted about thousands of times as viewers devour the series, which had its finale Thursday. Friend, have u even showered?

A new reality show has sparked controversy in the US following the broadcast of its first episode. Titled Labor of Love , the series — which is hosted by Sex and the Cit y star Kristin Davis — sees 15 men compete to father a child with a woman named Kristy Katzmann. Katzmann will name the winner at the end of the series and, in a last-minute twist, will choose to either have a relationship with the victor or use his sperm as a donor.
But when I turned 40 those alarms were really going off.
On May 21st, Fox premieres a new reality dating television “Labor of Love” following 41 year old Kristy Katzmann on her search for love.
But what about viewers whose aspirations have surpassed fantasies of tropical islands and date cards from Chris Harrison? Labor of Love, a reality dating series from Fox, hopes to fill this vacancy with a new type of happy ending. For eight weeks, the contestants, all in their 30s and 40s, were subjected to challenges designed to showcase their parental prowess—or lack thereof.
Well, during the first episode, the men migrate from a cocktail party to a sperm-collection exercise to assess their fertility, so make of that what you will. Labor of Love, like parenthood, is not for the faint of heart. Labor of Love is, to be fair, another heteronormative dating show featuring a group of conventionally attractive people.
Katzmann is not required to pick a partner at the end.
